Apparently the humble GIF is 25 years old. Introduced in 1987 by Compuserve, the file format was good for compressing and animating images, leading to widespread usage on the web, and all manner of tacky graphics (particularly on Myspace pages). We came across a charming little video called 'A Short History of the Gif' which explains (appropriately enough) through stop-frame animation) how the GIF was born and why it continues to delight (or perhaps irritate) web users all over the world...You can enjoy this very geeky history here.
