✅ Our main recommendation: Ecwid

Ecwid logo

Ecwid is a cloud-based ecommerce solution that lets users add a fully-featured online store to any existing website. You simply add a code snippet to your site to do so.

Ecwid allows merchants to sell physical and digital goods easily, and importantly sell them across other sales channels too (website, social media, marketplaces etc.). It’s a paid-for tool, but a cut-down free version is also available.

Key alternative to consider: Shopify

Shopify logo

Like Ecwid, Shopify lets you embed products and product catalogs on any site, and add a shopping cart to them too. This is done via its ‘Buy Button’ feature (a code snippet that works in a similar way to Ecwid’s).

The shopping experience you can create using Shopify is simpler than that facilitated by Ecwid, but it is more flexible when it comes to selling via print-on-demand and dropshipping. It also comes with powerful built-in point-of-sale features that let you sell in physical locations (retail outlets, marketplaces etc.).
